Descrizione: The DREAM Association led the construction and installation of a new AIDS treatment center in Beira. The long-term goal is a sustainable contribution to fighting the HIV epidemic in Beira, through preventive and therapeutic measures (anti-retroviral therapy, prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV, awareness of the problem, etc.).
HIV prevalence in the province of Sofala and the city of Beira is among the largest of Mozambique with 28-30% and 23% respectively. The AIDS treatment center was built in the Chaimite neighborhood as it can be reached from various parts of the city, including extensive slums in the area between the city and the countryside. These areas are particularly disadvantaged: the population is poor and lives mainly off of agriculture. Medical care is inadequate, especially for patients with HIV / AIDS.
The new center is equipped with a molecular biology laboratory, furniture, computer equipment, a generator as well as an uninterruptible power supply, a voltage regulator and other components for a proper electrical system. We also implemented a transportation system to and from downtown.
Beneficiaries: People in Beira living with HIV: adults, adolescents, children, pregnant women and mothers with their newly-born children
Requested Funds: 337,000 Euros
Project Start Date: October 2010
Project End Date: April 2011
