Scaling up Early Infant Diagnosis in the Southern Region of Malawi

Description: The purpose of this project is to increase access to diagnostic and treatment services for HIV positive mothers and children exposed to the virus. Activities of the project include: gathering samples for early diagnosis in children born to HIV-positive mothers, analysis of samples, outreach activities, and health education. An awareness campaign will also be launched in attempts of raising awareness of ongoing services available for people with HIV/AIDS in the area, in particular for pregnant women. It is expected that at the end of the project, of the children born to HIV-positive mothers, more will have access to early detection of HIV. Moreover, we expect that more HIV-positive women, aware of their rights, will adhere to the treatment during pregnancy and adequately nourish their children after birth.

Beneficiaries: 24 maternal wings in Balaka and Blantyre as well as the DREAM centers of Balaka and Blantyre
